Foot Pains - Some Basics By Jason Nicholls

There are many different causes - they can arise from repetitive sports or training related injuries, as well as disease or other form of trauma.
Quite often the cause is a mix of all of these and also includes wearing incorrect fitting shoes, and poor stance putting strain on the feet, causing pain in side of foot, foot pain bottom of foot, pain in arch of foot, diabetes foot pain and so on.
Let's take a look at a few of the more common types:
SIDE OF FOOT
I think many of us take our feet for granted - we do not usually notice or think about them, until they complain! When you have this sort of problem, it can be caused in many ways. Such as:
1. Blisters - from wearing shoes that do not fit properly; keep clean and covered for speedy healing
2. Bursitis - the body creates a sac of fluid to protect and lubricate areas between muscle, tendon and bone when that area suffers injury; it can become inflamed, however, causing pain in the side of your foot
3. Fissures - sometimes the skin by the heel gets dry, forming cracks in the skin and pain; they can bleed also
4. Fractures - can be due to a fracture of the 5th metatarsal, if no other injury or cause is found
5. Ganglions - sacs of fluid from a leak in the joint capsule can cause foot pain side of foot
6. Sinus Tarsi Syndrome - a common cause of pain when you roll over on your ankle and you stretch or tear ligaments
7. Tailors Bunion - noticeable as a bony lump just behind your little toe and often an hereditary defect that causes the 5th metatarsal to become enlarged causing foot pains on the side of the foot
8. Tendonitis - from wearing shoes that are too narrow; it irritates the tendon on the outside of the foot causing pain on side of foot and just by the front of the heel
9. Corns - often from tight fitting shoes that put pressure on the toes
BOTTOM OF FOOT
1. Plantar fasciitis - heel spurs - heel pain: these are all types of foot pains you may experience on the bottom of the foot. Sometimes, it is difficult to keep up normal activities such as walking, because of these causes; sometimes the pain is aggravated by wearing thin sole shoes or weight bearing for a long period of time
2. Flat Feet - foot pains vary depending on how severe this condition is
3. Morton's neuroma - this is a swelling of the nerve between the 3rd and 4th toes
4. Metatarsalgia - pain in the bones located around the ball of your foot
5. Plantar warts/verucas - like a wart on the bottom of the foot
Treatment Options - simplest to find are gel insoles - these provide protection for the ball and heel of the foot - the two high impact zones on the feet.
PAIN IN ARCH OF FOOT
Of the many possible causes, plantar fasciitis is the most common cause and the search term most widely used when searching for feet pain online. The plantar fascia runs along the bottom of the foot to the heel. If you overstretch this tissue (stretching away from the heel), you get pain in arch of foot - plantar fasciitis. It is important to treat this quickly, or risk the development of a bony protrusion - a heel spur.
Basically, you want to avoid wearing high heeled shoes and find insoles or orthotic supports to support the arch of your foot. You can also use ice treatments for up to 10 minutes, 3 times a day; strapping of the foot. But best advice is to be sure you get the correct footwear. The last thing you want is to have surgical plantar fasciotomy to relieve the stress in your plantar fascia.
If you want a more detailed analysis of the many causes, then there is an excellent article at: http://www.medicinenet.com/foot_pain/article.htm
DIABETES FOOT PAIN
If you suffer from diabetes and have any sort of pain in the feet, consult your doctor and get it treated immediately!!
Diabetes related pain in the feet means that there is some nerve damage happening to cause these pains. It is an extremely serious warning that veins in the foot are closing up - the circulation of blood in foot is being closed off. If you suffer with diabetes and feel any tingling sensations at all in your feet, report it immediately. Did you know that 15% of all people with diabetes will suffer foot ulcers - the foot is being poisoned to the extent it can tear a hole open in the foot. 3% of these sufferers will lose their legs - FACT!
DO NOT DELAY - DIABETES FOOT PAIN MUST BE REPORTED IMMEDIATELY

Family Doctors - Tips for Finding a New Doctor By John Vreugde

Family doctors still exist. There are many still offering similar services to their predecessors although home visits are no longer possible except in emergency cases. Although more people are seeking care from doctors specializing in different areas of medicine, family doctors are still an integral part of the health care system. In fact, many insurance companies require that you be registered with a family doctor to be referred out to a specialist. However, these family physicians are also limited in the treatment of various injuries.
A family doctor is one who ensures your overall health. Unlike doctors who specialize in the treatment of a certain organ, disease or system, family doctors receive specialized training that enables them to treat your whole body. They take care of patients of different ages and suffering from various conditions. Their form of treatment involves physical as well as psychological treatment. These doctors forge relationships with their clients and assist them in making the right decisions for their health care.
Training to become a family doctor requires practical training for 3 years in a real practice, treating patients. This may be in a hospital, health care center, medical clinic, or a home. Although these doctors are not specialized in any particular area of medicine, they must keep up with the latest developments in general medical practice. For this reason, family doctors must undergo re-certification more often than any other type of doctor. This ensures that they continue to re-educate themselves and are up to date at all times.
Although you may not have any health problems, it is important that you register with a family doctor. This is not only to meet the requirements of your insurance provider but also as a precaution. Family doctors are trained in both primary and preventative care. They are therefore well placed to advise you on prevention of health problems which is a much better option compared to overcoming health problems. This type of care will also help you save money in the long run as you will remain healthy and tackle health problems before they become serious.
Finding a doctor can be a challenging task. The best place to begin your search is with your friends and family. They may be able to refer you to doctors that are currently accepting new patients. Before you register with a family doctor, there is basic information you need to find out from them. This includes their working hours, the number of doctors in the practice, the system of payment expected, the referral of specialists, and if the practice can treat for your specific ailment or injury.
All patients should recognize that not all family practice physicians can treat for every type of injury. The vast majority don't treat injuries that occur at work, in a car accident, or personal injury such as a slip and fall. For workman's comp, most states require that the physician be certified on the Approved Doctors List to treat for on the job accidents. Subsequently, with the tedious pre-authorizations and extra paperwork required for worker's comp medical reimbursement, the medical clinics don't have the adequate staff for the extra workload. In reference to auto accidents and personal injury situations, the majority of family practice physicians refuse to provide medical care until an attorney is retained by the patient to guarantee payment to the treating doctor for medical care. Even then most physicians never recoup anywhere close to their out of pocket cost of treatment.
A good doctor should be able to answer all your questions with ease. He or she should be able to make you comfortable and explain specific recovery methods in a way that you will understand. Good family doctors take the time to answer questions asked by their patients and are patient enough to explain the answers.
See for yourself by contacting a doctor here: Family Practice Phone Numbers.

Information on Colorectal Carcinoma Symptoms By Brian R Emuss

Colorectal Carcinoma, also known as colon cancer or large bowel cancer, is the fourth most common cancer in America, 655,000 worldwide deaths per year. This includes cancerous growths in the rectum, appendix, and colon. The colon is a part of the digestive system and it makes up most of the large intestine, and its role is to help the body absorb minerals, nutrients and water. It also gets rid of waste of the body in the form of stool. The rectum is at the end of the colon which is adjacent to the anus.
There can be many Colorectal Carcinoma symptoms, depending on the location of the tumour in the bowel, and whether it has spread to other parts of the body. Most of the in Colorectal Carcinoma symptoms can often be found in other diseases. In the early stages of colon cancer, people normally do not have any symptoms. This is the reason why people over the age of 50 should have regular screenings; it is an essential investment and one should not see it as a waste of money going for health checkups. Colorectal Carcinoma Symptoms come in 2 general varieties, namely local and systematic.
If the tumour is located close to the anus, it is usually a local symptom. Bowel habits may change (either more or less frequent), feelings of incomplete defecation may occur (straining for the movement of bowel), the diameter of the stool is reduced, bright or dark red blood in the stools, and alternating periods of constipation and diarrhoea. If an individual happens to experience any of these symptoms for 2 or more weeks, one should inform the doctor immediately and arrange for tests to check for Colorectal Carcinoma.
As for systematic colon cancer symptoms, it is symptoms that affect the whole body. Symptoms like unintentional weight loss (weight is reduced when one is not dieting), extreme fatigue, loss of appetite, feelings of nausea and wants to vomit, anemia (low count on red blood cell), jaundice (whites of the eye and yellow colour to the skin). Likewise, if any individual experience any of these symptoms for a prolong period of time, they should straight away consult a doctor and book an appointment for checkups of Colorectal Carcinoma.
The risk of developing Colorectal Carcinoma in America is about 7%. There are several factors that can increase the risk of developing colon cancer. These causes include:
Age. This is the number one risk factor, as the older one gets, the higher risk they are of developing colon cancer, especially after the age of 50. Diabetes. People who have diabetes have a significant higher chance (40%) of developing colon cancer as compared to people who don't have diabetes.
Diet. Studies have shown that a diet high in fats and cholesterol, and low in fresh fruits and vegetables, increases the risk of Colorectal Carcinoma. People who frequently eat fish showed a decrease risk.
History of cancer in the family. The increase in risk depends on which of the family member was diagnosed and at which age.
Lifestyle. People who lack exercise (couch potato) have higher risk of getting colon cancer. Exercising frequently has a myriad of health benefits, so find a sport that you can pick up as hobby and play it with a group of friends.
Smoking. Smokers normally die of colon cancer as compared to non smokers. This is because the inhaled tobacco affects the colon and increases the size of the polyp.
Now that you have been informed of the various Colorectal Carcinoma symptoms, you should be better prepared for it and this will definitely help you in your quest to prevent colon cancer. God bless!

Simple Fitness Equipment, Advanced Results By Brett Kasa

Many people want to get in shape, be healthy, and live a more fitness-oriented life. The problems only begin to emerge when these same people realize the plethora of effort, motivation, and money it takes to accomplish this goal. Though certainly effort and motivation can't be messed with, you can save money in your quest to be healthier. This article is designed to help those who aren't currently happy with their fitness level, and seek to achieve a healthy norm. Those desiring a ripped body and six-pack abs may still benefit from some of these tips, but body builders will likely still need more advanced equipment to fine-tune every part of their bodies. If instead you just want a leaner torso, an easier time breathing after vigorous activity, and some solid muscle growth, you can accomplish that goal with just the basics.
If you're averse to going to the gym or spending money on membership there, there's no need to worry. With most people in the United States suffering from a lack of physical activity, just getting up and moving around more often can be a real benefit. If you're more of an 'average Joe' or 'average Jane' type, you're unlikely to be the kind of person who ever intends to use advanced weight and aerobic equipment on a daily basis. Still, that's far less important than getting up and moving, as heart rate-raising exercises conducted for at least 30 minutes a day, 3-5 days a week can really improve your health and fitness, while also helping you lose weight. With just a few pieces of home gym equipment, you can get in better shape, and not have to shell out fifty bucks a month to share sweat with hundreds of other people.
A versatile piece of equipment for any home fitness routine is an exercise ball. These fitness balls come in a variety of sizes, so anyone can find one that works with his or her body size. Exercise balls have plenty of give, allowing you to enhance workouts ranging from abdominal exercises to aerobic and muscle-building activities. This give allows you, for example, to really work your abs, as you'll be able to take leg lifts farther back than a 180-degree flat position, which will really work those muscles. The ball can easily be stored and definitely doesn't cost fifty bucks a month to use.
Some other pieces of fitness equipment you should consider picking up include, but are not limited to, the following: jump ropes, small free weights, elastic bands, medicine balls, etc. With just a few of these items on hand, and combined with an assertive daily routine, you can see real fitness improvements in a shorter time than you might think.
Getting in shape at home doesn't require anything but basic fitness equipment. Whether you need a jump rope or an exercise ball for your new fitness routine, you certainly won't have to shell out unnecessary dollars for the privilege of using a gym every day.

How To Grow Taller Tips And Exercises By Jeff I Anderson

Not as tall as you'd like to be? Would you like to know how to increase your height by a few inches??
If you answered yes then read on, because theses exercises will help you quickly gain height naturally!
By stretching and exercising you encourage your body to grow by "fooling" it into believing it is in a growth phase. Growth in humans occurs due to a hormone secreted by your pituitary gland in your brain known as Human Growth Hormone. As a result of exercise and stretching, your body is forced to release the natural Human Growth Hormone throughout your body and this can trigger an explosive boost in height!
Some very helpful and proven exercises for height gain include:
* Weight-resistant snap kicking: as the name suggests, weight-resistance snap kicking involves having small weights (5 lbs and under when you first begin or you may cause injury to yourself or others) strapped to your ankles, and performing sets of kicks wherein you extend your legs and flick your ankles out at the end. This can help to stretch muscle tissue and cause it to heal in a longer form. You must be very careful when using ankle weights however; if you have brittle bones, stiff or loose joints or you have suffered a knee or ankle injury in the past, make sure you consult a doctor before trying this method out.
* Field kicking: field kicking refers to doing a large kick-like motion by swinging your entire leg up from your hip, keeping your leg rigid. Ensure you do some calf and hamstring stretches before and after this exercise.
* Cycling: try cycling with an elevated seat, as this will force your legs to stretch further, hence stretching your muscles and joints. Cycling can be performed on either a standard bicycle or on an exercise bike at home. If you opt for the outdoor option, make sure that you can reach the pedals; don't set the seat at a level that is uncomfortable or you may find it difficult to control the bike which could easily result in an injury to yourself or another person.
* Swimming: swimming is a fantastic exercise, whether or not you are doing it for height-gain. It relaxes and stretches the joints and allows optimum mobility and weightlessness. Swimming requires you to use your whole body, thus strengthening and stretching every limb.
If you start performing some of the exercises that I've just shared with you on a regular basis, you'll finally be able to grow taller and get closer to your dream height.

Heartburn Remedies to Ease Your Pain By Joey Williamsoon

When acid goes up to the esophagus, it causes a burning sensation in the stomach or chest, which is called heartburn. The stomach contains acid, to break down and digest your food. However, when strong stomach acids move up to the esophagus the sensitive tissue becomes inflamed and results in heartburn. There are many different forms of treatment. Here are a few suggestions for those who prefer home remedies over other medicines.
The effective heartburn remedy in most of the cases is a home remedy or natural remedies. Heartburn is caused when stomach acid is pushed back into the esophagus, resulting in a burning sensation. There are other associated problems, like regurgitation, sore throat and chest pain. Further, if you have a prolonged heartburn, it can be serious, and dangerous if untreated.
Another good heartburn remedy is, not to lie down just after your meals. Allow your system, to digest your food properly, before sleeping. While sleeping, it is always recommended that your upper body is higher than the lower body. This will prevent heartburn at night. Other ways of avoiding the symptoms of heartburn are by losing weight and wearing comfortable, loose fitting clothes.
Your stomach expands when you have a heavy meal. This increases the upward pressure, and acts against the esophageal sphincter. Therefore, to avoid heartburn, do not create such negative situations in your body. Eat only the required quantity of food, which your stomach can easily manage.
Do not lie down, right after your meal, because, this will prevent the food, from moving downwards, from the stomach, to the intestine. Further, it will obstruct your digestion, leading to heartburn. Therefore, to treat your heartburn naturally, take a 5 minute stroll after your meal.
The biggest factor in reducing the symptom of heartburn, is adjusting your diet. Also, it is the cornerstone of heartburn remedies. Adjusting your diet, not only means eating less food, but also avoiding the food which is spicy, and replacing your high acidic food to higher alkaline foods. If you do not take these measures, then you cannot expect a cure for your heartburn. Also it includes avoiding smoking and drinking along with reducing the intake of drinks.
The natural health remedies include many herbs. These herbs can be consumed in natural tablet form or you can add it to tea or use it as ingredients in meals. Following are some natural heartburn remedies which act like antacids namely baking soda, Aloe Vera juice, apple cider vinegar and bananas.
Alternatively, people can choose from a number of heartburn remedies. It varies from home remedies to medicines prescribed by doctors for chronic conditions. Also your local pharmacy will have different brands of products, to choose from, without any prescription. The best way is to take these medicines, at the first sign of discomfort, to get faster relief.
Therefore, we can conclude that the heartburn remedies to ease your pain are plenty and varied. It is up to the sufferer, to decide which remedy he wants to proceed with. I would suggest the natural remedies, because, they are the safest and the most affordable. In addition, they do not harm the body, even if they turn out to be ineffective.

10 Exercises to Improve Memory By Bill Hodge

If you are like many people, you are constantly looking for different exercises to improve memory. Do you constantly forget to pick up things at the grocery store? Do you always forget where you put your wallet? These can be frightening experiences if they happen on a regular basis. Luckily, the mind is like a muscle; we can work it and build it up so it stays strong and active.
1) Physical Exercise: When you are fit on the outside, you'll be fit on the inside. Keeping physically active will help your mind stay focused and strong.
2) Memory Games: There are many games you can play that test your memory. Lay some cards face up on the table and look at them for 20 seconds; turn them over and see if you can remember the order.
3) Crosswords and word games: These puzzles are great to do with your morning coffee or afternoon tea. They are usually included with your newspaper, or you can buy an assortment from your local dollar store.
4) Learn something new: This will keep your brain stimulated. Try a cooking class or take up a second language. Learn something that you've always wanted to, but never had the time.
5) Read books: Reading stimulating books that make you think will keep your mind focused. Mysteries, personal development, and religious books are all good choices.
6) Word of the Day: Each morning, open up your dictionary at random and pick a word. Write it down in a journal with the meaning, and a sentence. Practice it throughout the day. If you do this every single day, you will have learned over 365 new words in a year.
7) Online games: There are many memory games online and most of them are free. Mazes, puzzles, even Tetris will help keep you active.
8) Engage the senses: You always remember more when you can see, touch, taste, smell and hear.
9) Go for a nature walk: When you can walk on the beach and hear the waves and seagulls; or go through the forest and see the wildlife and old trees, your mind will relax and be better able to remember things.
10) Reduce stress levels: When you are too stressed, your mind can't focus and you will be in a constant state of panic and disarray. Learn to handle the situations better, or stay away from people who are causing you stress.
When you do at least some of these exercises every day, you will notice an improvement in your memory almost immediately. Set yourself some goals and challenge yourself to meet and exceed them. You'll be amazed at what your mind can do once you give it a chance and work at it. It doesn't take a lot of time; even just 15 minutes a day can make a huge difference.
Eating right is also important, so get those fruits and vegetables in. Leafy green lettuce, broccoli and spinach are all great choices. Choose fruits such as pomegranate, watermelon and mangos. Omega 3's like salmon and ground flaxseed are essential as well.
Memory is something that most of us take for granted, until it isn't there anymore. Contrary to popular belief, brain cells do not disintegrate as we age. It is up to you to make sure you do everything you can to keep your mind active and alert, no matter how old you are. When you exercise your mind every day you will live a happier, more productive life. You will be able to enjoy your family and grandchildren for many years to come.
Doing daily memory improvement exercises is a huge help in making your brain function excellently. There are many effective exercises that you can do wherever you are and whenever you feel like it. A collection of this is made by Bill Hodge and is given away for free in his 10 day mini-course. The Difference Between Remy And Virgin Hair By Abbi Akinsanya

Lace wigs can now be considered as a fashion staple among those who working in the entertainment business. Found in movies, music and the runway, it is now an accessory that many people claim to be a hair innovation. Highly comparable to the traditional wigs, the quality of these wigs is far from it.
They look and feel like real hair, not the synthetic, plastic texture you get when touching a customary wig.
Prices vary depending on how they are made. Mostly made of pure human hair, though there is also a synthetic kind, which is considerably cheaper. There are different types of hair depending on where they're from. Carefully taken out of donor's head, this ensures that purely human hair is meticulously attached to a lace mesh. The types range from Brazilian, Malaysian, Indian, European, and so on.
Many people are confused with the difference between remy and virgin hair. You will see a lot of these lace wigs labeled as virgin or remy, but do you really know what type of hair it is? The description is in the name itself. Virgin hair is unprocessed or untouched hair straight from a donor's head. This hair has never been colored or steamed in any way, completely natural. Remy hair on the other hand, is a cutically aligned hair which could be processed, in one way or another. Each hair cuticle is aligned in one uniform way, which lessens the tangling of these hairs. A Remy hair could have color or be treated to achieve a certain style.
It all depends on your personal preference whichever you believe suits you the best. Budget is also a considering factor when purchasing lace wigs. Because of the rampant supply we have available, you can easily get one from any hair specialty stores near you, or better yet, on the internet for a more convenient option. Just make sure to transact with a legitimate seller when purchasing online so you can be assured that you will get your money's worth. We know how scams are now being played around the cyber world. Before purchasing one, you need to list down factors that you are looking for in a unit. Consider the length, the color and the style, on whatever look you want to achieve. You may try playing with these aspects on the computer with your photo, to give you a slight idea on how you would look.

Head Lice Information and Advice By Terry C Young

If you have kids, at some point you're likely to need some good head lice information. Lice is very common among schoolchildren, and it doesn't take much to contract them. You'll want to know how to get rid of them -- and how to keep them from coming back.
Where they live
Guess what? The only place head lice live is on the human head. Your cats can't get head lice and give it to you, nor can your dogs. However, your kids can get head lice from other children at school (one of the most common ways they are picked up). The kids bring them home to you and other family members, and your whole household can be carrying lice before you know it.
How you get them
Live adult lice are transferred directly from one head to another. The infested person just has to basically "brush" his or her head against another person's head, and the lice will transfer. Getting a hug from an infested person is one way you can catch it (from adult to adult, for example). One of the reasons lice are so commonly transferred among children is because they spend lots of time in close proximity to each other, playing together. All it takes is a simple "brush up" of one head against another, and presto! Lice are transferred to a previously un-infested head. Lice eggs, or nits, are not transferred from one head to another. But lice procreate so quickly that nits appear very soon after initial infestation.
How to treat them
Treating lice is relatively simple, but requires dedication. Treating them has to be a multifaceted approach, because while lice only live on the human head, they can survive for a day or two on other surfaces (like furniture, bedding, clothing, hats, and so on). In order to eradicate lice completely, you need to thoroughly treat the human head or heads infested with them. At the same time, you'll take a few simple housecleaning precautions to make sure you don't pick up a stray bug or two after beginning treatment.
Lice shampoo
There are good brands of lice shampoo on the market that can be used to eradicate head lice. Some of these shampoos contain neurotoxins, and should NOT be used on children. There are non-toxic shampoos available that can get rid of head lice quickly. These shampoos have enzymes in them that are harmless to humans, but basically dissolve the lice exoskeleton and then loosen the glue that adheres the nits or eggs. This kills the bugs and will allow the nits to be combed out much more easily.
A lice comb
In addition to the shampoo, you'll need a lice comb so that you can comb out all of the nits completely. It's important to comb out the nits, because nits hatch every seven to 10 days. If you don't eradicate the nits, as well as the lice, you're likely to experience a re-infestation very quickly.
A hot washer and dryer
Head lice need to feed frequently to survive. Lice which crawl off a human head will only live for a day or two. So the main focus is on treating human heads. However, a few precuations should be taken at the start of treatment to catch any dying stragglers hoping to crawl onto a new head. All bedding and clothes worn recently should be washed in hot water and dried in a hot dryer. If you can't wash something that you're really concerned about, the simplest way to peace of mind is to seal it up in a plastic bag for a few days so any lice will die. It's a good idea to vaccuum bedrooms thoroughly at the start of treatment.
Rubbing alcohol
Soak all combs, brushes, and anything else that touches the hair in rubbing alcohol for an hour. Follow with a brief soak in hot, soapy water and then a thorough rinse.

Green Tea - A Tea for Life By Andreas Moritz

For more than thirty years, Western researchers have known that the occurrence of solid tumor cancers is far less in countries where populations consume large amounts of green tea. Cultures that are endowed with a long tea tradition have much to contribute to individual and global health. However, this applies only to green tea. Regular black tea, presently very popular almost everywhere, has not much to do with real tea. Real tea is derived from the tea plant Thea sinensis or Thea asoncica, not to be confused with herb teas such as peppermint, chamomile or fennel.
Both black and green teas originate from the same tea plant, but their methods of processing are different. The breaking of the leaves of the plants and exposing them to the oxygen of the air produces black tea. The resulting natural fermentation process destroys the most important biological ingredients of the tea - the tannins. By contrast, during the production of green tea, the leaves are stabilized through exposure to both humid and dry heat. This eliminates fermentation-producing enzymes and safeguards the nutrients.
Due to fermentation, black tea assumes drug-like qualities. Since tannins and other important nutrients are no longer present in the tea, its caffeine appears in free and unbound form. The stimulating effect of the quickly released caffeine causes the addictive effect of black tea. It triggers a 'fight or flight' response in the body. Since the body treats the ingested caffeine as a nerve toxin, the adrenal glands naturally respond by secreting the antidote adrenaline. This defense response by the body has a stimulating and enlivening effect. However, as the effects of the caffeine and adrenaline diminish, the body starts feeling tired and may end up exhausted.
Green tea works in a different way. The large amounts of tannins in green tea make certain that the caffeine is taken to the brain in only small and well-dosed amounts, which actually harmonizes the energies in the body. Unlike black tea, the original green version of the tea makes the body's own energy-use more efficient. This helps the consumer of green tea improve his vitality and stamina without having to experience the 'up and down' effect so often accompanied with the consumption of black tea.
The value of tannin has been studied for centuries all over the world. Besides its ability to bind caffeine, it also has healing properties. Green tea is particularly helpful with intestinal disorders and high blood pressure. It has been shown to be 20 times more effective in slowing the aging process than vitamin E. Studies have demonstrated that the success rate of green tea in reducing oxidants in the body (considered responsible for aging) is 74 percent compared to 4 percent with vitamin E. The vitamin C content of green tea is four times higher than in lemon juice and it contains more B-vitamins than any other known plant. This makes green tea useful for facial skin conditions such as rosacea/acne. Apart from drinking green tea, you may apply it directly to the skin before bedtime and after washing your face in the morning.
Since green tea is highly alkaline it naturally helps combat hyperacidity. People who drink green tea also suffer less from arteriosclerosis. It also keeps the blood thin and prevents coronary heart disease, heart attacks and strokes. Furthermore, researchers from the University of Osaka, Japan, have been able to prove that green tea kills microbes responsible for cholera and tooth decay; it also destroys salmonella germs before they even have the chance to enter the stomach. A substance called 'EGCG' has been found to retard tumor growth. The Botikin Hospital in Moscow reported that green tea is more effective against infection than antibiotics, without producing any harmful side effects.
Green tea has over 100 ingredients that have been found useful for a number of conditions, it inhibits cell mutations leading to cancer, reduces blood fats, balances serum cholesterol levels, prevents high blood pressure, increases heart efficiency, improves brain functions, enhances metabolism, improves vision, supports secretion of saliva, increases growth of hair, reduces body fat and weight, stimulates digestion and helps clear urinary tract obstructions.
In a study testing the preventative action of green tea, a team of researchers from the Department of Preventive Medicine at the University of Southern California (U.S.C.) found that green tea prevented breast cancer in women by 30 percent if they consumed about half a cup per day. If they drank more than that, their risk of developing breast cancer was further reduced. Women who regularly drank black tea, on the other hand, didn't have a reduction in their breast cancer risk. The good news is that this study revealed that you don't need to drink buckets full of green tea to benefit from it.
The best green tea comes from the Shizuoka area in Japan; it grows organically and has no additives. People living in this area have a much lower cancer rate than those living in other areas of Japan. A reliable brand is Sencha sold by Kurimoto Trading Co., Japan. With over 130 ingredients, it is the richest of all green teas. Other brands are Ocha or Bancha; you should be able to find at least one of them at a good health food store.
Note: The effectiveness of green tea depends on how you prepare it. Take 1½ teaspoons of green tea for 2 cups of tea. Bring water to a boil and turn the heat off. Put the tea into a pot and pour the boiled water over the tea as soon as the water has stopped bubbling. After no longer than 35-45 seconds, pour the tea through a sieve into a teapot, otherwise the tea loses much of its effectiveness. You may use the same leaves a second time by applying the same procedure.
Does Green Tea Contain Toxins?
Some web sites on the Internet claim that tea is very high in fluoride content. Fluoride in tea is supposedly much higher than the Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) set for fluoride in drinking water. Another site confirms that information, adding that the typical cup of tea exceeds one milligram of fluoride, which is well over the recommended amount for fluoridated drinking water. On yet another site, it says that fluorine and its compounds in food are entirely different from chemically-produced sodium fluoride. It states that once an element is extracted from the soil and incorporated into plant life, its properties change greatly. All this can be greatly confusing for those concerned about fluoride poisoning.
Yes, fluoride is found in tea and also in mother's milk. This applies also to areas where there is no fluoride in the drinking water or air. Numerous plants contain naturally occurring fluorine or fluoride compounds. The hideous version of fluoride that is added to drinking water in so many parts of the world is the poison we ought to protect ourselves against. "Fluoride, once touted as an osteoporosis treatment, is, in fact, toxic to bone cells," says John R. Lee M.D. Thankfully, the American Dental Association, which has for many years been one of fluoride's biggest advocates, changed course when it alerted its members in 2006 that parents of infants younger than a year old "should consider using water that has no or low levels of fluoride" when mixing baby formula.
If the naturally occurring fluoride in green tea were even remotely toxic (like the fluoride added to drinking water), it would not have shown to have such a wide range of preventive and curative effects. The body's immune system would reactively respond to it and become weakened in the process, yet quite the opposite is true. Green tea inhibits cell mutation, stimulates digestion and enhances brain functions. Synthetic fluoride has the exact opposite effects.
The fluoride - or fluorine - that occurs naturally in tea and other foods is so volatile that most of it evaporates in the heating process. The synthetic sodium fluoride added to water, on the other hand, remains stable when heated. So the sodium fluoride in your cup of tea is of much greater concern than the natural fluoride in the tea itself. Excessive fluoride intake can lead to hyperthyroidism. If you have been diagnosed with this disorder you should consult with a doctor of Ayurveda, Chinese Medicine or an ND (doctor of naturopathic medicine) who is knowledgeable about nutrition and its effects on the body's endocrine glands.

Different Types of Dementia Explained By Laura Luckett

The term 'dementia' is used to describe the symptoms that occur when the brain is affected by certain diseases and conditions, such as memory loss.
What is important to understand is that there are various different types of dementia. Usually, people associate the term 'dementia' with Alzheimer's disease. Whilst this is the most common cause of dementia, it is not the only one. Learning about different types of dementia is important because each one has its own set of characteristics.
Types of dementia include:
• Alzheimer's disease
• Vascular dementia
• Dementia with Lewy bodies
• Fronto-temporal dementia
• Korsakoff's syndrome
• Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease
• HIV-related cognitive impairment
• Mild cognitive impairment
There are also rarer forms of dementia such as supranuclear palsy and Binswanger's disease. The Alzheimer's Society publishes information about the various types of dementia on its website.
For the purposes of this article, we will explore two main types of dementia: Alzheimer's disease and vascular dementia.
Alzheimer's disease
Alzheimer's disease affects around 465,000 people in the UK. [Figures from the Alzheimer's Society]. It is a physical disease that affects the brain. The disease sees 'plaques' and 'tangles' develop in the structure of the brain. These plaques and tangles kill off brain cells. People suffering with the disease are also affected by a shortage of important chemicals in their brains. These chemicals help to transmit messages around the brain. Without them, these messages cannot be delivered.
Alzheimer's is a progressive disease that damages more and more parts of the brain as time goes on. As this happens, so the symptoms become more severe. For example, people in the early stages of Alzheimer's experience short memory lapses, perhaps struggling to find the right words for things. As the disease develops, sufferers will forget words - along with the names of people and places - as a matter of course. Understandably, this is both frustrating and frightening, and accordingly Alzheimer's sufferers may experience mood swings as the disease takes hold.
Individuals who are living with dementia will ultimately require round-the-clock care and will need to find a care solution where they can benefit from dedicated care and support from expertly trained care providers. This may be a residential care home or a live in care service from a home care company.
Vascular dementia
Vascular dementia is the second most common form of dementia after Alzheimer's disease. It is caused by problems in the supply of blood to the brain as a result of damage to a network of blood vessels in the organ called the vascular system. A damaged vascular system will not allow blood to reach the brain, which kills off brain cells - and this can lead to vascular dementia.
A number of conditions can incur damage to the vascular system including high blood pressure, heart problems, high cholesterol and diabetes. If these conditions are spotted early enough, they can be managed and as a result present less of a threat to the vascular system. Vascular dementia can also be brought on by a stroke.
Symptoms include forgetfulness, restlessness, confusion and aggression.
Dementia care
Individuals who are living with dementia need support. Family and friends have an important role to play, and as the condition advances the patient will often need some form of professional care. A live in carer who is trained in dementia care can provide both practical assistance and the emotional support and care that is needed when living with dementia. A live in carer also enables the person living with dementia to remain at home, which is greatly advantageous from the point of view of providing continuity of care in familiar surroundings promoting a sense of calm and overall wellbeing.
Laura Luckett works for The Good Care Group, a professional provider of high quality live-in care services that enables elderly people to stay safely and happily in their own home for as long as possible, maintaining independence and dignity.

Effective Tips To Arthritis Back Pain Relief By Jake Doran

Until now there is no single method that has been proven totally effective in relieving arthritis back pain. This is due to the fact that different individuals react differently to different types of treatments. There are a lot of ways in which you can use to reduce pain due to arthritis, but in most treatments you can't still expect to experience total relief. Most of the times you need to combine several techniques or even drop some in order to achieve the best result.
Relaxation is one of the useful methods proven able to provide relief to arthritis back pain up to a certain degree. When pain is felt at the back, it is mostly caused by the impact of stress. Stress is known as the number one contributor to many types of illnesses including arthritis. If you allow stress to concur your body and mind, pain will not go away. That is why it is important that you rest as soon as you begin to feel pain at your back.
When relaxing for the purpose of alleviating your arthritis back pain, it doesn't mean that you have to lie down and drift off to sleep. There are many ways for you to relax. It can be soothing to both body and mind if you relax in your bathtub. Make sure that the water is warm and not cold. It is even better if you have a Jacuzzi at home, but any tub filled with warm water is just perfect for this purpose. The reason why you should use warm water is because you can let your muscles be stretched and strengthened. You will start feeling relieved within ten to twenty minutes.
Progressive relaxation is another effective reliever for arthritis back pain. Lie down on a piece of thin and flat mattress or you can just rest on your bed. What you should do now is to create tension on your muscles for a few seconds accompanied by relaxing them. This should be done alternately and all your body muscles must take part in this 'relaxation' technique. It is best to start with your feet and end with your back and neck. Check on your breathing and make sure that you take deep breaths at all times.
Guided imagery can also be an effective reliever to arthritis back pain. You can do this every time you are in pain. Select a comfortable spot at home - it can be your bedroom, your favorite sofa or even the library if you have one. Put on a soothing kind of music like classical piano or violin and guide your memory to places where you are happy, healthy and arthritis free. This technique is related closely to hypnotherapy, but you are actually doing it by yourself.

Top 5 Causes Of Back Pain By Ashley D. Wilson

Hello everyone! For this article, I decided to talk about the top 5 causes of back pain. Having pain in your back is very common and is also something that can completely ruin your day. While people often focus on how to relieve this, they also should focus on what caused their pains to begin with! If you are frequently dealing with these troubles, there is likely a cause for it. With this article, I am going to share my list of the top 5 causes of back pain,
1. An Injury
The top cause (at least from my experience) of the pain in your back is some type of injury. Did you try to lift something too heavy? Were you out playing sports? Did you take a major fall? All of these events can lead to pain in your back. If you find yourself having frequent pain and you are also frequently exercising or frequently lifting heavy objects, then there may be a connection!
2. Something Is Wrong
Another major cause of pain in your back is that something is wrong with your back. Perhaps there is a problem in your spine or some of your joints. You may also have muscle tension or a herniated disc. If you think any of this is the case, then you should go see a doctor as soon as possible.
3. Disease
If you are having frequent pain, another possibility is that you may have some type of disease. This could be a disease that has happened recently, or something that runs in your family. For instance, kidney stones can cause back pain. While this cause is a lot less common than the previous two, if you are having frequent pain, you should go talk to a doctor.
4. Depression/Anxiety
Believe it or not, it is possible for frequent depression or anxiety to cause pain in your upper or lower back. If you find yourself stressed, this can lead to your back becoming tense. This can then lead to the pain that you are experiencing. Like any other medical condition, if you feel you might be depressed, talk to a doctor!
5. Infections
This is rather rare, but there is the possibility that you pain may be caused by some type of infection. Like I said, it's not that common, but if you have some type of infection in your back muscles, this may be causing your pain. Like always, if your back pain lasts longer then a few days, talk to a doctor!
I hope you found this list of the top 5 causes of back pain helpful. Identifying the cause of your pain is a great step in making sure that you don't have to deal with back pain any time soon. Good luck!

Inflammation - What a Pain! By Terri DeVore

Did you know that back pain is the second most common reason for missing work? Most of these complaints will be due to back strains or sprains. A back muscle strain occurs when the muscle fibers are stretched or torn. A back sprain occurs when the ligaments are torn from their attachments. Both lumbar sprains and strains can result in inflammation of the tissues which can result in pain.
Inflammation is defined as swelling, redness, pain, tenderness, heat, and disturbed function of an area of the body, especially as a reaction of tissues to injurious agents. This pain can come from over-training and not allowing adequate rest, lifting a heavy object, twisting or straining your back, or even from bad posture. Whatever the cause, most back aches can be subsided with a few easy home remedies.
Think warm:
Use a warm compress, heating pad, or a heated gel pack. One reason this helps is because the heat promotes blood circulation in the area which reduces inflammation.
Get some Zzz's:
Get to bed early and let your body rest. Make your goal 8 hours of sleep a night. Sleep is so important as this is the time your body uses to grow and repair itself. To help relax (and reduce the inflammation) take a warm bath with Epsom salt as the salt reduced the symptoms.
Watch what you eat:
Did you know some foods are anti-inflammatory foods? They consist of omega-3 fatty acids and include items such as fish, almonds, avocados, oatmeal, and fruits. Aim for as many of these foods in your diet as possible.
If all else fails:
You can also try an over-the-counter pain killer such as ibuprofen or aspirin. These pills can help with the pain.
The thing to remember is to let yourself get better before you begin working out again. It may be difficult but being "out of commission" a day or two will be better in the long run. Apply heat, get plenty of rest, watch what you eat, and you'll be back to your exercise in no time!
To avoid sprains and strains in the future make sure you use the proper technique of lifting using your legs instead of your back. Also, include anti-inflammatory foods into your diet everyday. If you are not already following an exercise routine, begin with stretches and strength-training exercises to help build your back muscles and make them strong.

Quit Smoking - Now! By Tim Moss

Globally, one in ten people die from smoking related diseases. This is an estimated four million deaths every year, and the sad thing about it is that most of these deaths could have been prevented. Smoking accounts for the largest single cause of disease and preventable deaths across the globe.
The statistics are mind blowing. Many people do not know the connection between smoking and many diseases. Many would know the health implications of smoking but would continue to smoke anyway. Whichever group you belong to, you probably have enough sense to know that smoking is not good for you. If there was any time to quit smoking, it's now.
Smoking is an addictive habit and if you are a regular smoker and have a hard time quitting, this is because you have become dependent on cigarettes. However much you deny it, you have become an addict. This is why quitting smoking is easier said than done. Some would have to go through the process of quitting so many times before being successful. A single cigarette will contain more than 4000 chemicals, hundreds of which are toxic to the human body. The addicting substance in cigarettes is nicotine which produces a good feeling when taken in, and this causes people to come back for more.
There are also chemicals that are called carcinogens in cigarettes, and these encourage the formation of cancer cells. These chemicals affect genes that regulate the formation of cells and once affected some cells can multiply rapidly or grow abnormally. Smoking also damages the immune system making people who smoke more prone to sickness and infections. With this host of reasons (and this is just a partial list), it should be easy to make the decision to consider quitting smoking. Quitting smoking may be hard, but not impossible. There are steps that you could take in order to successfully say no to this disgusting and dangerous habit.
Most people use two methods of quitting smoking: one is by quitting cold turkey and the other is by gradually cutting down on their tobacco consumption. Cold turkey is said to be the best way to quit smoking, as most success stories on quitting smoking were done by making a snap judgment to stop. Other people opt to cut down on the number of sticks they smoke in a week, until they eventually make the transition to stopping altogether. There are also nicotine replacement therapies that people could take in the form of patches or gums. Some choose to undergo hypnosis or other alternative means.
Whatever your method of quitting, it would be useful to take note of the following tips.
* Set a fixed date for quitting. It's easier when you have an actual goal date instead of a moving target. Not having a fixed date will only give you the excuse of continually putting quitting off.
* Announce your intentions. Let everyone who would listen know that you are quitting. Tell your friends, family, work mates. Chances are they will provide you with the support you need to quit the habit. This also reinforces your intentions to yourself, making it more real rather than just a plan.
* Set distractions for when temptation rears its head. You will be faced with temptations to regress into smoking, no doubt about it. There will be triggers like certain social situations, meals, alcohol, or coffee. It would help if you had a defensive arsenal like substituting cigarette with a gum, lollipop or candy. Avoid social situations for the meantime which trigger your smoking impulse, such as sitting on a restaurant's smoking area.
* Keep busy. The busier you are, the less time you have to think about smoking. Whenever you feel an urge to smoke, quickly divert yourself by starting on a task. This could be something as simple as calling somebody, or checking your email.
* Document your quitting process. Sometimes writing about your quitting journey is a good way to remind yourself of how far you've come. This will be a good reference for when you feel like you need a reminder of the reasons why you're quitting, and what is at stake if you go back to smoking.
